Eagles soar over the Bulldogs
O n Tuesday, March 3, the Cornersville Bulldogs made the trip to Eagleville High School to meet up with the Eagleville Eagles, who had home court advantage for the next round of regional competition. The game was a fast paced blur as the Eagles took flight early, and never stopped soaring. The Dawgs tried, valiantly, to slow the pace of the game but to no avail. The Eagles’ pressure just proved to be too much for the Bulldogs and they cause several turnovers and the Dawgs just couldn’t keep up. Not only were they fast, but they were on fire from behind the 3 point line and did not miss many shots. The Dawgs rebounded well, which kept the Eagles from getting multiple opportunities to score, but this did little to help since they drained most of their shots and scored on the first try.
The Bulldogs did not play badly, they were just outmatched. One fan quoted, “When you have a great season and you come this far, eventually you are gonna face THAT team that just plays at a much higher level than you.” This is exactly what happened to the Dawgs as they were up against the number one team in the state. The game ended with a score of 78-28 with the Eagles dominating. The Bulldogs have nothing to be ashamed of, though. The squad has done amazing things this year, including making history as they moved to the 2nd round of regional tournament play. Scorers for the night included Ayden Campbell with 14 points, as he tried to help his team hang with their strong opponent, Conner Lankford with 6 points, Konnor Calahan with 4, and Jacob Courtemanche with 4.
The scene was sad as the team exited the locker room and the seniors had the realization that they had just played their last high school basketball game, but they have had an amazing year and have given their fans much to cheer about this season. The Regional Tournament team members will be announced later this week, but Ayden Campbell was given his plaque early, since he will be on the baseball field the night the awards are given. Thanks boys for an awesome season and your school can be proud of you for the way you represented them this year. GO DAWGS!
