The Marshall County Tigers struggled to consistently push runs across the plate in a series loss to Summertown last week.
SUMMERTOWN 10, MARSHALL CO. 4
The middle innings in Game 1 against Summertown weren’t kind to the Tigers as the Eagles plated a combined eight runs from the third through the fifth innings as Marshall County fell 10-4 on Thursday.
It was a tough outing for the Tiger pitching staff.
Aden Kirby went 3 1/3 innings and gave up six runs on six hits before Cahlin Henry took over and pitched the final 3 2/3 innings.
He allowed four runs, only one of which was earned, on five hits.
Both pitchers walked two and struck out three.
After falling behind 3-0 by the bottom of the third inning, Marshall County rallied for a pair of runs when Henry hit a sac fly to right, scoring DJ Gardner for the first run of the inning.
Carson Henderson then smacked a RBI single to third, scoring Eli Cross for a second Tiger run.
By the end of the third, Marshall County trailed just 3-2.

But then Summertown went on to score six runs over the next two innings.
In the bottom of the sixth, Marshall County worked some two-out magic when Henderson, Lucas Hery and Kendrick Tears connected on three-straight base hits to load the bases with two outs.
Kirby was then hit by a pitch to push a third Marshall County run home and then Colton Cardin was also hit by a pitch, scoring a fourth Tiger run.
But the two-out hit eluded the Tigers and Summertown was able to play add on in the seventh for the final margin of victory.
Henderson led the Tigers, going 2-for-3 with a RBI on the night.

Hits eluded Marshall County in Game 2 as the Tigers fell 6-1 at Summertown on Friday.
The Tigers limited the Eagles’ offense to a single run in each of the second and third innings, and then cut the Summertown lead in half when Kendrick Tears drove in Cahlin Henry on a RBI fielder’s choice.
But the Eagles responded with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to preserve the five-run lead.
Marshall County got just four hits off the Eagle pitching staff, with Henry’s double being the biggest hit of the night.
