Roberta Hicks Batten

Mrs. Roberta Hicks Batten, 85, of the Wheel community in Bedford County, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in Shelbyville, Tenn. She was born in Whitwell, Tenn. to the late James Leslie Hicks and Marie Layne Hicks. Mrs. Roberta was retired from Stanley Tool as a quality control specialist and she was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Douglas Batten, a son, William “Bill” Wayne Batten, sonin- law, Johnny Foster, and a sister, Delphie Burrahm.
Mrs. Roberta loved working on crochet projects, quilting, and sewing. She had a passion for cooking and feeding her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, growing vegetables, and doing word searches in her free time. Her favorite television show was The Young & the Restless. Most of all she enjoyed time spent with family and making memories.
Mrs. Batten is survived by her loving children, Linda Batten (Joe) Tate of Shelbyville, Tenn., Shelia Batten Foster of Shelbyville, Tenn., Sherry Batten of Unionville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, William Jerry Hicks; sisters, Imogene McGowan of the Flat Creek community in Bedford County, Lorene Blackburn of Unionville, Tenn. and Dalphine Shadrick of the Flat Creek community of Bedford County, Tenn.
Visitation with the family was held Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service was conducted on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Faulk officiating. Interment followed at Hopper Cemetery in Chapel Hill, Tenn.
