O ver 33 years ago, Jimmy Oliver started his career with the Marshall County Sheriff ’s Office as a dispatcher. In 1993, he graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy. Since that day, serving the people of Marshall County has never just been a job to him — it’s been his mission. Oliver has worked in nearly every position related to law enforcement within our community. “I’ve served as a deputy, patrolman, court officer, D.A.R.E. officer, School Resource Officer, and detective. I’ve worked my entire career here, with both the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the Lewisburg Police Department at different times throughout my service tenure. I understand this job, from working the road all the way to the position I hold today as Captain over Investigations. I know what the men and women in law enforcement face every day because I’ve been out there with them,” stated Oliver.
“Marshall County is my home. This is where I’ve built my career and where I met and married my wife, Becky (McCord) over 35 years ago, and where we chose to raise our family,” Oliver said. Becky serves the community as a special education teacher at Chapel Hill Elementary School. They have raised three children, Savannah, Bryce, and Spence within this county and now as adults, they have also chosen to live and work in service occupations in Marshall County. As a family, they believe in giving back to the place that has given them so much.
“In all aspects of life, experience, leadership, and integrity play a vital role in success. I believe I possess all of these qualities. That’s why I’m running for Sheriff of Marshall County,” Oliver said when asked about his values of his campaign.
Oliver strongly believes that the Sheriff’s Office should operate with professionalism, accountability, and respect for the people they serve. Deputies need strong leadership, proper training, and the equipment to do their jobs safely. Oliver wants to be the Sheriff that works toward these improvements. Citizens deserve transparency, fairness, and a Sheriff who listens. “I am willing to LISTEN to all citizens as I commit to being visible and accessible while I SERVE all the people of our county,” Oliver stated.
He believes public safety is not political — it’s personal. It’s about protecting families, improving programs and work opportunities for inmates, increasing school safety, standing against drug activity, and making sure our neighborhoods remain safe. It’s also about building trust. That trust is earned through consistency, visibility, and doing the job the right way every day. Oliver believes in steady leadership and treating people with respect. He believes in being accountable and feels strongly that the Sheriff’s Office should reflect the values of Marshall County — hard work, honesty, and service.
“Over the coming weeks, I’ll be out in the community listening. I want to hear your concerns, your ideas, and your expectations. I would be honored to earn your support and your vote,” Oliver stated with determination in his voice.
