Mildred Elsie “Billie” Hamilton

Mildred Elsie “Billie” Hamilton, a beloved member of the Mooresville community passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 29, 2026. She was 93 years old. Surrounded by the family she spent a lifetime nurturing, Billie left this world just as she lived in it: with grace and surrounded by love.

Born on January 31, 1933, in Marshall County, Tennessee, she was the youngest of five daughters to Mollie Elizabeth and Thomas Helton. At just 14 years old, she met Wilbur “Duke” Hamilton. Their first date set the tone for a partnership of 74 years: the young couple shared a single pair of roller skates—one skate each—as they glided into a life together. They were married in December of her senior year, just months before she graduated at the top of her class at Marshall County High School.

Whether she was running Hamilton’s Boutique on the Lewisburg Square or later working at Cosmolab, Billie brought a sense of elegance and sharp wit to everything she touched. A woman of many talents, she was a gifted writer of poetry and a baker whose creations were the staple of many a holiday and family gathering.

Her creativity extended to her home, where her gardens were so vibrant that passersby would frequently stop to take pictures of her flowers. She transformed her house for every holiday, ensuring that every season was a celebration for her children and grandchildren.

Above all, Billie lived by her values and passed those on to her children and grandchildren. She lived by the Golden Rule, reminding her family to always “treat others the way you want to be treated.”

A passionate citizen, Billie believed deeply in the power of community and service. She served as PTA President and was the perennial “room mother” for all six of her children. Later, she served as President of both the Marshall County Women’s Democratic Club and the Marshall County Women’s Club.

Billie’s legacy lives on through her husband, Duke; her five children, Dennis Hamilton, Sharon “Dee Dee” (Tom) Wiegand , Tammy (John) McCullough, Lori (Ted) Osborne, and Phillip (Dennis Dominioni) Hamilton; her 12 grandchildren, including Laura (Hank) Harthcock, Leigh (Greg) Dees, Maury D. (Karen) Wood, Sean (Sarah) Wood, Andrew (Erin) Wood, Victoria (Josh Parecki) McCullough, Brianna (Chris Stelmarski) McCullough, Cameron McCullough, Morgan (Yoojin) McCullough, Kayla Osborne, Hunter Osborne, and Logan (Ricky Braddy) Osborne; her 26 great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild.

Billie’s life was a bridge between generations; just as she is celebrated by those who carry her love forward, she is now held in memory alongside her son, Tracy Hamilton; her grandson, Marcus Reed Osborne; her sisters, Ruby, Gracie, Rachel, and Olene; and her parents.
