Annita Jean Slate

Annita Jean Slate, 76, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at her son’s residence.
She was born August 30, 1949, in Chapel Hill, Tennessee, to the late George and Mary Newcomb Green. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Malcolm “Mac” Slate, two sisters, Sandy Shelton, Peggy Harwell, and a great-grandchild, Adalyne Martin.
She is survived by two sons, Tony (Jana) Leverette of Chapel Hill and Mark (Tanja) Leverette of Wheel; two sisters, Mary Hodge and Becky Lancaster and one brother, Donnie Green, all of Lewisburg; six grandchildren, Ashley Cron, John Leverette, Devin (Austin) Martin, Jordan Leverette, Gabriel Leverette, and Ali Hoffman; five great-grandchildren, Colton Cron, Emily Cron, Marina Martin, Malachi Martin, and Maesyn Martin; a special niece, Cathey Pugh, as well as numerous friends.
Mrs. Slate attended Bible College at Liberty Bible Institute in 1991. She was a longtime member of Victory Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Tennessee, enjoying singing in choir and a gospel group.
Prior to retirement, she was employed as a hairdresser after graduating from Fayetteville Beauty School. She owned a shop in Cornersville for many years and then shared a salon right off the town square in Lewisburg. In later years, before her husband’s passing, they managed the Saddlewood Apartments in Lewisburg together.
She and her husband had a love for antiquing and attended many auctions and estate sales looking for great collectible finds. She enjoyed watching Hallmark movies and her favorite show, Golden Girls, in her time at home. One of her biggest joys, in her later years, was time spent with her little Yorkie dog, Bailey. She adopted him soon after losing her husband, and he brought endless hours of happiness to her life.
A celebration of life will be announced later. London Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
