VFW Teacher of the Year
Brandie Burchell of Westhills Elementary School was presented the VFW Teacher of the Year Award last week by VFW Post 5109. She entered the 2023/2024 Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award back in the fall. Burchell is in her seventh year of teaching science and social studies at Westhills. She taught sixth grade for five years but has been teaching fourth grade for almost two years now.
She is chair of the school’s Climate Committee where she helps organize events like Grandparent’s Day and Veterans Day. Burchell also works with Tiger Academy, the after school program, where she helps students get their homework done.
She won Teacher of the Year 2021-2022 and District Teacher of the Year 2021-2022. Burchell is a Marshall County High School graduate. She received an A.A.S. from Columbia State Community College and then finished her B. S. degree at MTSU.
