BELL BUCKLE — After playing Cascade within one run last week, the Marshall County Tigers made sure Game 2 in the non-district series wouldn’t be close.
The Tigers rallied behind a strong outing by Aden Kirby, who pitched a complete game for Marshall County and downed the Champs 8-1 to spoil Senior Night.
Although Kirby gave up 10 hits, the Tiger starter only allowed one run to cross the plate, while striking out six.
The Champions grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Reid Mitchel tied up it up with a solo homer to deep center field.
The Tigers then took the lead when Kel Hightower connected on a ground ball and safely reached via Cascade error, allowing Ayden Cook to score the go-ahead run.
A fifth-inning fielder’s choice scored a third Tiger run of the night and Marshall County slammed the door shut on the Champions, scoring two in the sixth and three more in the seventh to even the score in the series.
A two RBI single off the bat of Cahlin Henry bumped the Tigers’ lead to 5-1 by the end of the sixth and another Cascade error plated two more Marshall County runs in the top of the seventh.
Mitchell again was the culprit and knocked in the game’s final run on a single to left.
Mitchell went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to his credit, while Hightower and Cook both doubled.
