MURFREESBORO — The Marshall County Tigers slugged 10 hits against Central Magnet and picked up a key win on the road on Monday night, winning 10-7.
Central Magnet plated a single run in the first and third innings before blowing the game wide open with two huge innings and eventually coasting to the 10-7 win.
Trailing 2-0 by the end of the third, the Tigers rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Carson Henderson got the block party started, scoring Reid Mitchell on a RBI double.
Henderson followed up with a RBI double to tie the game at two, before Aden Kirby scored the go-ahead run run on a sac fly.
DJ Gardner knocked in a fourth run of the game on a ground ball single to center field, doubling up Central Magnet for a 4-2 lead.
After starting pitcher Eli Cross posted a scoreless fourth, the Tigers went back to work at the plate and knocked in five more runs, with Gibby Miller driving in a fifth Tiger run on a RBI single to right.
Kendrick Tears drove in another run on a fielder’s choice before Gardner scored a seventh Tiger run on another sac fly.
Marshall County plated three more runs in the inning to take a commanding 9-2 lead.
That’s when things got interesting.
Central Magnet responded with a five-spot in the bottom of the sixth, but the Marshall County bullpen was able to lock down the win by pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
In the end, Gardner, Cross and Miller each drove in two runs in the win, with Henderson and Hery each smacking a double.
Cross got the win on the bump, pitching five strong innings, allowing two runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits while striking out four.
