FAYETTEVILLE — Tyler Thompson threw four more touchdowns and the Tiger defense pitched a shutout as Marshall County blanked Fayetteville in a non-region tilt on Friday night, 35-0.
The Tigers (6-0) continued to flex on all three sides of the ball, with both the pass and ground game finding traction against the Fayetteville defensive front.
Marshall County totaled 141 yards on 28 carries and was led by the one-two punch of D.J Gardner Jr. and Jamahl Gentry.
Gardner totaled 58 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown, while Gentry had 51 yards on six touches.
Thompson continued to shine in the pass game for the Tigers and found six different receivers
He completed 11-of-13 passes for 157 yards and four more touchdowns.
He also threw just his second interception of the season, bringing his totals to 26 passing touchdowns and just two interceptions.
Senior wide out Aja Jones made three grabs for 45 yards and a score, while Kel Hightower also had three catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.
Marcus O’Neal and Marks Mitchell both had receiving touchdowns as well.
Defensively, the Tigers swarmed the Fayetteville backfield and totaled six tackles for loss.
Jaden Keys finished with 10 total tackles, while Bowne Poarch had nine total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Marshall County also snagged two takeaways from Fayetteville City, with O’Neal recording an interception and Kaiden Harris coming up with a fumble recovery.
There’s little question the Tigers continue to thrive on both offense and defense.
In the previous four games, the Tigers have outscored their opponents 176-20.
As the regular season stretches into the final month, the Tigers will hit the road for back-to-back region trips to Creek Wood and Montgomery Central over the next two weeks, before sitting idle on October 18.
Marshall County will then close the regular season with home games against Whites Creek and Pearl Cohn.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday at Creek Wood.
