LEWISBURG — After trailing 3-1 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning, the Marshall County Tigerettes drove in a combined seven runs over the final two innings and held off a two-run rally by Central Magnet for the 8-5 win on Thursday night.
Jachelle Ridley blasted a solo homer in the bottom of the second for the early Marshall County lead, but Central Magnet rallied for three runs in the top of the fourth.
Marshall County answered with a four-spot in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Brynlee Walls and Zakiya Taylor both scored on a Lady Tiger error.
Kinley Wiser then laid down a perfect sac-but, scoring Courtney Lynch from third.
While the squeeze plated a third Tigerette run of the inning, it was Ridley who again knocked in a run, this time on a RBI single to left, scoring Demiyah Blackman.
By the end of the fifth, Marshall County led 8-3.
The offense continued with three more runs in the sixth off a pair of doubles, with Taylor driving in one run and Blackman knocking in a pair of runs on her double.
Even with the offensive surge over the fifth and sixth innings, Central Magnet was able to take advantage of a pair of Tigerette errors in the top of the seventh and scored two runs on back-to-back RBI singles.
But that was as close as the visitors got on Thursday evening, as relief pitcher Brookelyn Nunley recorded a strikeout for the final out of the game.
Blackman was 3-for-4 on the night with a double, a triple and two RBIs, while Ridley went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs driven in.
Lynch took the win in the pitcher’s circle, giving up three runs on five hits with five strikeouts before Nunley took over and pitched the final two innings in relief.
