LEWISBURG — The Marshall County Tiger offense is absolutely rolling to start the 2024 season.
Through the first month, Tiger coach Thomas Osteen knew his squad would be tested with challenges out of the gate against Columbia and Shelbyville Central.
But after handling both non-region opponents to open, the Tigers have moved on to the Region 5-4A slate and on Friday night, hammered Greenbrier, 59-6 on Senior Night.
Simply put, the Bobcats were outmatched in every facet of the game as the Tigers (4-0, 2-0) imposed their will en route to picking up their second region win of the season.
Junior quarterback Tyler Thompson kept his prolific start to the season going as he went 14-for-16 for 306 yards and found the end zone six times.
Senior wide out Marcus O’Neal was the top target for Thompson, hauling in four grabs, three of which went for scores, and totaling 109 yards.
Aja Jones, Kel Hightower and Jamahl Gentry all made touchdown grabs as well.
The Tigers were hot out of the gate, racing to a 30-0 advantage, before tacking on 21 more points in the second quarter to take a 51-0 lead into the half.
Neither team scored in the third period and with a running clock, the Tigers added one final score with a successful 2-point conversion in the fourth.
Greenbrier also avoided the shutout and was able to put six on the board in the fourth frame as well.
In addition to an incredible night through the air, the Tiger ground game churned out 189 total yards, with senior Jaden Keys totaling 70 yards on four carries, while Mylan Bell had 10 carries for 56 yards.
D.J. Gardner added four carries for 26 yards as well.
Gardner and Bell also both found the end zone.
Defensively, it was Gardner again making his presence felt, along with Cavvan Ruiz and Tyler Railing, who all recorded six tackles.
Railing, along with Keys, each had a pair of tackles for loss.
The Tigers return to Preston Hopkins Field on Friday night, hosting White House for another key region matchup.
