Teachers across the globe celebrate Peter H. Reynolds’ picture book The Dot each September 15th to encourage creativity and confidence amongst their students. The Dot is about a girl named Vashti who discovers her artistic talent. As students read or hear Vashti’s story, they’re encouraged to explore their own creative sides. Teachers motivate them to make their mark and then challenge them to follow up and see where it will take them. Westhills Elementary School students spent the week reading and talking about the book and creating art in Mrs. Kim Higgs’ class, followed by a celebration on the 15th.
