Marshall County proclaimed July 9, 2024, as Kavares Tears Day – a day that recognized Tears as an exceptional baseball player. Tears played a major part in the University of Tennessee’s baseball team winning the 2024 Men’s College World Series. As Tears neared the Lewisburg Square, the huge crowd clapped and cheered as the instrumental version of “Rocky Top” played. Photographs were taken with his fans and Tears autographed UT flags, baseballs, shirts, and other sports memorabilia – even a shoe! Mayor Mike Keny said a few words, along with Rep. Todd Warner, Tears’ high school baseball coach from Columbia Academy- Coach Rickie Estep, and Reverend Herbert Johnson led a prayer.
And how exciting is this! San Diego Padres selected Kavares Tears in the 2024 MLB Draft on Monday, July 15. Congratulations Kavares!
