On April 13, 2024, the ladies of the Lewisburg Study Club gathered at Cypress Café in Cornersville for their Annual Spring Luncheon. Sarah Hackett, owner and operator of Cypress Café, prepared lunch – chicken salad croissants, lemon arugula pasta salad with parmesan and toasted walnuts, a mixed berry congealed salad, cherry pistachio muffins, and polished off with a pot de crème.
The 2023-2024 theme was the “Road Not Travelled.” A rotation of hosts selected a unique interpretation of the theme every month leading to a range of topics – The Green Book, the Eastern Band of Cherokee, and the 1978 Trail Derailment of Waverly. One group’s topic was “Women Who Wander,” highlighting the lives of Grandma Gatewood, Marshall County native Sadie Mae Wilson Tillman and the Biblical story of Ruth.
Susan Lavender, the Spring Luncheon Speaker, shared her story of the last year spent travelling the globe with nothing but her backpack. She received her M.S. Exercise Science from Tennessee Tech and spent 16 years working in school health, focusing on promoting physical and emotional well-being among students. As Susan pivots to her new career as a Life Coach, she trusted her own heart and embarked on a journey of self-discovery. Thirty-two members and guests enjoyed Susan’s slideshow of breathtaking photographs from the Appalachian Trial to Singapore and everywhere in between.
