The 2023 Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards were presented at the Marshall County Joint Economic and Community Development Board’s December meeting. Nominations were open during September. This year’s winner is Barbara Woods for her dedication to the Lewisburg community. Ms. Woods has served this community in so many ways—teacher, principal, Mayor of Lewisburg and as a member of several committees, including Beautification Committee, Community Development Board, Planning & Zoning Board, Historical Downtown Board and Tree City Board. Barbara can often be found around the square or Rock Creek working to make our community a more beautiful place to live!
Our Marshall County Governor’s Volunteer Youth Award winner is Rabeth Ryan, daughter of Casey and Shawna Ryan. Rabeth, Forrest High graduate and sophomore at MTSU, has been volunteering in her community since 3rd grade. She has delivered meals for Chapel Hill’s annual Turkey Dinner, organized and donated food to animal shelters, and has been involved in many 4-H projects including Operation Christmas Child. She has volunteered her time at Horton Haven Christian Camp, within her church youth programs, and has been actively involved in assisting tornado victims.
They will both be honored at a statewide ceremony in February.
