UNIONVILLE — Three seniors led the way offensively for the Forrest Lady Rockets Tuesday evening in their 6-5 victory over the Community Viqueens.
Heading into the sixth frame, the Lady Rockets held a comfortable 5-1 lead over the Viqueens, but the home team turned up the heat late in the game to close the gap.
A single and smart base running from leadoff Maggie Daughrity got Forrest on the board early, Community unable to answer, stranding two base runners.
It wasn’t until the top of the third on two outs that Daughrity again reached on a single, bringing up fellow senior Abby Ferguson, who knocked an RBI triple.
A Christa Warren RBI single padded the Lady Rockets’ lead.
Community started to threaten in the bottom of the fourth on hits from Gracie Daniel and Haylee Webb.
Annie Prince connected on an RBI double, putting the Viqueens on the board.
In the fifth frame, Daughrity snagged her third single on the night, and Ferguson tacked on a home run to give the Lady Rockets a four-run lead.
Thanks to a RBI single and RBI double from Brooklyn Yoes and Kenzie Tucker respectively, Community kept things alive heading into the final frame despite Forrest’s 5-3 lead.
After another plated run from Daughrity, the Viqueens kept things interesting with back-to-back homers from Alana Tate and Taylar Wessner but were unable to seal the win.
Ferguson went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer, while Maggie Daughrity was 4-for-4.
Ella Chilton went six innings and gave up five runs on 10 hits, but struck out three, while Taylor Moreland worked an inning in relief and gave up just one hit.
