It was a busy morning for students at Oak Grove Elementary School on Oct. 19. Coordinated School Health Coordinators Veronica Davenport and Deborah Wade were both onsite. Davenport and Wade work with the Marshall County Board of Education

TCAT nursing students were there to check blood pressure and perform hearing screenings. Teachers helped their students navigate through different stations and interpreted for non-English speaking students.

Wade helped the event run smoothly, made sure the Lion’s Club knew how to operate the cameras, and took height and weight measurements of the students. Wade said, “We are hitting schools back to back. We were at Westhills on Tuesday, Chapel Hill Elementary on Wednesday, here at Oak Grove today, and tomorrow we’re going to Delk-Henson. On Nov. 2 we will be over at Cornersville Elementary.”

The Lewisburg Lion’s Club gave students eye exams. They used some of the newest technology in the industry to perform eye exams. The children stayed focused because the cameras have flashing lights inside and they even make bird sounds. The cameras take images of the eyes and the data is then sent to the Lion’s Eyesight Center at Vanderbilt. Data is reviewed and sent back to the school nurse. From there, additional services may be recommended based on a pass/fail criteria.
