Carmen Ward pitched six innings for the Lady ‘Dawgs and allowed five runs on five hits, only two of which were earned, with a strikeout.

EAGLEVILLE — Cornersville struggled to scratch runs across the plate and saw its season come to a close with a 5-0 loss on Monday night at Eagleville.

Eagleville was the beneficiary of five Lady ‘Dawg errors that helped the Lady Eagles build a sizable lead, which held for the entirety of the game.

Out of the gates, things looked promising for the District 10-a runners-up with a leadoff double by Anna Wood in the top of the first.

Despite Wood moving into scoring position, Eagleville turned a double play and got out of the inning without any damage.

Eagleville then drove in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly ball in the bottom of the inning, then padded its lead with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third.

The Lady Eagles then closed the game, scoring a single run in the fifth and sixth innings.

Cornersville matched Eagleville’s five hits and was led by Carmen Ward, who went 2-for-3 on the night, Wood was 1-for-3 with a double.

Ward pitched six strong innings, giving up five runs on five hits, only two of which were earned, to go with a strikeout.

Cornersville ends the season with a 17-11 overall record.
