CHAPEL HILL — Despite out-hitting visiting Cannon County 4-1, the Forrest Rockets weren’t able to generate any run support and dropped their first District 9-AA loss of the season on Monday night, 2-0.
Preston Gentry did his part on the mound for Forrest, going the distance and allowing two runs on one hit while striking out seven.
Carter Walk went 2-for-3, while Brennan Mealer went 1-for-3 with a double.
The only runs of the game came off a two-run blast off the bat of Bennett Kauffman.
In fact, Kauffman’s two-run homer was the Lions’ only hit of the night.
Cannon County’s win over Forrest now puts the Lions in first place of the 9-AA standings.
Game 2 was scheduled to be played on Tuesday night, however results were unavailable at press time.
