UNIONVILLE — During their first meeting earlier this season, Forrest claimed its lone District 9-AA win against the Community Vikings.
On Friday, the Rockets broke out of an offensive slump and posted their season-best effort on the offensive end of the court.
Unfortunately for the Rockets, the Vikings did the same, and avenged the earlier season loss with a 94-60 win over Forrest.
Forrest has struggled to consistently score in recent games, but found plenty of offense between Tristan Goad and Bray McCown on Friday in Unionville.
The pair combined for 39 points and seven treys.
The balanced attack out of the gate looked promising for the Rockets, but Community’s Landon Lovvorn wreaked havoc in the paint.
He led the charge in a 24-point first quarter by Community with eight points in the paint, highlighted by a 3-pointer to close the quarter.
Things slowed for the Vikings in the second quarter, but Community still out-paced the Rockets 18-15 in the period, despite another strong quarter from McCown, who knocked down two 3-pointers.
By halftime, Community led 42-31.
While the 3-ball continued to fall for Forrest, with McCown drilling two more in the third, and Jimmy Bond adding another from the perimeter, the Vikings notched their best quarter of the game to the tune of 28 points.
Maki Fleming went for nine and Austin Stickler added eight as Community surged ahead.
The Vikings continued to disperse the offense evenly among the roster and closed the game on a 23-14 run.
Goad led all scorers with 21 points and McCown added 18.
The Rockets didn’t make many trips to the line, but went a perfect 4-of-4 attempts for the game.
