CHAPEL HILL — A slew of errors and a cold night at the plate was more than Forrest could overcome in Monday night’s 9-4 loss to visiting Lewis County.
Forrest proved advantageous in the bottom of the second inning when Carter Walk and Kason Fuller both scored when Paxton Mealer reached safely via error.
Lewis County got one run back in the third, but took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth with a two-out single.
While giving up the lead in the fourth, the Panthers put the game out of reach with a six-run fifth inning, highlighted by four-straight singles, two more RBI singles, a bases-loaded walk and a balk.
Kason Fuller got the Rockets’ only hit to lead off the bottom of the second inning with a single to center field.
Tyler Tackett went three innings and allowed one earned run to cross while giving up five hits. He also struck out four.
Colton Johnson worked the final four innings in relief for Forrest.
