The Rocketeer School Bank at Chapel Hill Elementary School has been in operation for a remarkable 25 years and has been supported by several banks including Chapel Hill’s Apex Bank who is the current sponsor. The bank is open each Wednesday morning before classes begin and students have the opportunity to make deposits into their savings accounts at Apex Bank. The K-3 students learn valuable lessons about saving and money management while the tellers use their math and leadership skills. Each teller toured Apex Bank and received training on banking practices.
“Giving back to the community is what we do at Apex Bank. Sharing the importance of saving, especially with some of our youngest citizens, is one of the most impactful things we can give to the Chapel Hill community,” stated Jenita Daughrity, Branch Manager and Director of the Rocketeer School Bank. “This program was introduced to CHES in 1998. Some of the original participants now have children in this same program. It is exciting to be a part of that circle of life.” Ms. Daughrity, along with Lauren Calloway help the students each Wednesday.
