CORNERSVILLE — The one-two punch of Tristan Goad and Matthew Yeager was just too much for Cornersville could handle as the Rockets took care of business on the road on Tuesday night.
The pair combined for 41 points and led Forrest past Cornersville, 58-41.
While it started as a bit of a slow grind for the Rockets, Forrest relied on some timely 3-point shooting, as well as the ability of Goad to find open looks in the paint—notably in the first quarter.
Goad knocked down six points and finished the first half with eight.
Although Forrest built a 10-point halftime lead, it was a third-quarter surge that ultimately put the game out of reach for the Rockets.
Yeager knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the third and Goad added a third to spur a 17-point quarter.
Still, every time it seemed like the Rockets had dealt a knockout blow, Cornersville was able to slow the ba
rrage with a timely basket.
After struggling in the first half, the Bulldogs made good on four second-half treys.
But the relentless attack of Goad continued to pour on the points and even though the Bulldogs rallied for 25 in the second half, couldn’t crack the double-digit Rocket lead.
As a team, Cornersville shot six 3-pointers, with Lovell knocking down three.
Yeager led the Rockets with four.
Goad posted a game-high 23 points, with Yeager chipping in 18.
In addition to Lovell’s 13 points, Ayden Campbell chipped in 11 for the hosts.
