Robert Lewis Chapter NSDAR Places Marker

Posted on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 2:12 pm

On October 22, members of the Robert Lewis NSDAR Chapter and the family of Nancy McAdams Turner met at Lone Oak Cemetery.  The occasion was to place and dedicate Mrs. Turner’s DAR marker.

Regent Beverly McLain opened the ceremony by welcoming all the attendees.  Chaplain Marion Joyce offered a scripture reading and prayer.  Marilynn Scheuchenzuber noted in the tribute, Mrs. Turner joined the Robert Lewis Chapter in 2013.  Like many DAR members, she encouraged her daughter Teresa Turner Moses to also join.  Mrs. Turner reflected the mission of the DAR in her activities in the Baptist Church and DAR.  She and her daughter Teresa wrote two biographies for the Tennessee State Society two-volume publication “Legacies of our Great Grandmothers”-those of Levisa McLain McAdams and Levisa’s mother-in-law Margaret Whitsett McAdams.  Margaret Whitsett McAdams was the wife of her ancestor patriot Joseph McAdams.   Mr. Turner and Teresa Turner shared words with the group.  The dedication of the marker was performed by Beverly McLain and the ceremony was closed with a prayer by Marion Joyce.

As one of the most inclusive genealogical societies in the country, DAR has190,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United States and internationally. Any woman 18 years or older-regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background-who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership.
