A very special reunion took place on Friday evening, Sept. 29. Former youth choir members of the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg got together to celebrate. Members traveled to the event from Texas, Indiana, Oklahoma, and local areas. Past newspaper photos, articles, and music bulletins were framed and placed on easels in memory of the choir’s music and message.
During the mid-60’s and into the early 70’s, several young church members were part of the Youth Choir. They practiced and worshiped together through song every week. It was normal to spend up to four additional hours a week rehearsing new music and programs. They also got the opportunity to share their message with extended trips in the southeast during summers. The participants became very close friends as a result of spending so much time together.
Highlights of the evening were singing happy birthday to Jack Webb (69) and a special rendition of the “Jackie Fargo Strut” from Charlie Gibson. There were constant conversations that night, but a lot of time was spent reminiscing about the special moments they experienced together.
A 2024 Alumni of First Baptist Church Youth Choirs Reunion is planned for Friday night Oct. 25, 2024. If you were a member and would like to attend, please text Wally Ritter at 931-580-9736 with your name and number to be placed on next year’s attendee list.
