CORNERSVILLE — Make no mistake, the Cornersville Bulldogs are red-hot to start the 2025 season.
After defeating Loretto 38-28 in dramatic fashion during the season opener, Corenrsville followed with a dominant 31-0 shutout victory against Collinwood at Frog Bottom on Friday night to open the home slate.
Quarterback Jackson Smith did a little bit of everything, tossing a pair of touchdown passes, connecting on four extra point attempts and nailing a 22-yard field goal.
The Trojans simply had no answer.
The ‘Dawgs came out of the gate hot and Hunter Uland got the scoring frenzy going, slicing three yards into the end zone with 8:33 left in the opening period.
Smith followed and made good on his first extra point attempt of the night.
Cornersville added another score, barely a minute later, with Smith called his own number and scored on a one-yard touchdown run.
He later added a 22-yard field goal and by the end of the first frame, the ‘Dawgs led 17-0.
Smith later connected with Uland on a three-yard touchdown strike with barely two minutes into the second half.
Sophomore Easton Lombardi then notched the final score of the night, which came on a six-yard jaunt with 5:23 left in in the third.
The 2-0 start is the best for the ‘Dawgs since the 2021 season when Cornersville started 3-0 and went 9-3 overall.
The ‘Dawgs return home on Friday night to Frog Bottom and will host Perry County, who also enters the contest at 2-0 following Friday night’s 40-0 win against Scotts Hill.
