CORNERSVILLE — The Cornersville Bulldogs fought tough through the majority of regulation, but the Moore County Raiders had a little more in the tank in Friday night’s 24-14 Region 5-A defeat.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Moore County grabbed a 10-0 lead off an eight-yard Cole Taylor touchdown run and a 23-yard Jax Ross field goal with 5:09 left.
But the Bulldogs wouldn’t be shutout in the first half.
With 1:39 left in the half, senior Hunter Uland scored on a 29-yard run with 1:39 left in the second.
Still trailing 10-7 after halftime, Moore County took a 17-7 lead when Raider quarterback Isaac Petty connected with Taylor on a nine-yard touchdown pass with just over five minutes left in the third quarter.
The ‘Dawgs found an answer from Uland who scored his second touchdown of the night with 1:28 left in the third quarter.
The score, however, ultimately proved to be the final touchdown of his career as Uland later suffered a lower leg injury that will force him to miss the remainder of the season.
Although Cornersville’s defense hung tough, the Raiders got one final insurance touchdown on an eight-yard touchdown pass from Petty to Taylor for the final margin of victory.
Cornersville will close out the season on Thursday night, hosting Huntland in the final game of the regular season at 7 p.m.
