Marshall County Schools Celebrate National School Lunch Week
To recognize the National School Lunch Program, Marshall County Schools celebrated National School Lunch Week from October 16-20, 2023. The fun and creative campaign theme, “Level Up with School Lunch,” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom. Students who ate a school lunch received small rewards such as stickers, pencils, bookmarks and more.
Research shows children are getting their healthiest meals at school. National School Lunch Week will highlight the nutritious foods available daily at the District’s 10 schools and fun activities are planned by the cafeteria staff and managers.
“School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” remarked Larissa Delk, Food Services Supervisor, “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.”
The federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has been fueling students for success for 77 years. The program serves nearly 30 million children every school day. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom.
