Mr. Matt Gassaway, 41, of the Wheel community, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024. He was born in Columbia, Tenn. to Marty Berry Gassaway and Geraldine Andrews Gassaway. Matt was of the Christian faith. He worked in construction and was a former Paramedic. Matt was preceded in death by his faithful fur baby, Charlie Murphy.
Matt loved hunting and fishing but most of all he loved helping people. That was why he chose to become a paramedic. He loved his work but later made a career change to work independently in the roofing industry working to help people with their insurance claims. He always wanted to feel like he was helping someone! His love for his daughter was his light in this dark world but his faith was very strong.
Matt is survived by his daughter, Serenity “Reny” Gassaway of the Wheel community; parents, Marty and Geraldine Gassaway of the Wheel community; sister, Misty Gassaway Blade of the Wheel community; nephew, Jake Townsend of the Wheel community; and special dog, Billy Jack.
Visitation with the family was Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Bro. Brent Haley officiating. Interment followed at Wheel Cemetery in the Wheel community of Bedford County, Tenn.
John Cooke, Jeremy Swift, George Newman, Adam Johnson, Charles Haskins, and Brian Bruce served as pallbearers.
