Mike Martinez, Chair of Local UAW 1853 – Retiree Chapter, has been working with the Lewisburg Police Department since 1994. The UAW has the largest, more progressive program for retired members in American labor unions. Retiree chapters are the heart and the soul of the UAW retiree program.
For children this Christmas, the Retiree Chapter partnered with JC Penney of Cool Springs where coats were purchased. Martinez dropped off the numerous boxes of coats on November 30 at the Lewisburg Police Department. Each child who is sponsored by the Lewisburg Police Department’s Cops for Kids program will receive a new coat.
On December 2, the Cops for Kids program, which included city police officers, numerous volunteers from the three schools in the county, as well as those who volunteer each year, purchased items for children through donations. A coat(s) and these items will be given to the parents/guardians of the children before Christmas.
