Bill Marsh, longtime Marshall County Banker, announced that he will retire at the end of 2023 after 50 years in banking. Bill received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1973, with a major in Business Administration. He is also a graduate of the School of Banking at Vanderbilt University and the Mid-South School of Banking at the University of Memphis. He attended the Executive Development School at Rhodes College from 1988-1989.
Since then, he has had extensive financial institution experience in Marshall County Tennessee. He served as President of Peoples and Union Bank for 14 years and later as Chairman, President/CEO of First Commerce Bank, which he helped organize, from 2002 to 2018. In 2018, he worked on a part-time basis and continues today as the Chairman of the Board of Directors. He is currently serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Lewisburg Water and Wastewater Department. He is also the past Chairman of the Tennessee Bankers Association. He served as Chairman of Marshall Medical for 21 years until his retirement on Dec. 31, 2022.
Marsh stated, “I want to thank my wonderful co-workers, all my customers, our shareholders, and most of all my family for the support that they have given me over the years. This support has helped make my career so rewarding. I am leaving First Commerce Bank in great shape with a new, young leadership team. First Commerce Bank was rated number 3 out of 123 Tennessee banks in overall bank performance as of June 30, 2023. I am extremely proud of the job they are doing.” Marsh will remain Chairman of the Board of First Commerce Bank.
