It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our precious mother, Lois Hargrove Purcell, on September 20, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born on April 20, 1937, in Chapel Hill, Tennessee to the late T.T. Hargrove and Annie Laura Cook Hargrove. She was pre-deceased by her husband and the love of her life, W. Bruce Purcell in 1983. She was also pre-deceased by her grandson, Wm. Connelly Hinds; sister, Margaret Hargrove Tipton; and son-in-law, James Lee Moss, III.
Lois is survived by her two daughters, whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally, Kande McPeak Wyatt and Tanya McPeak Moss of Fayetteville, Tennessee. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren, Kandice (Heath) Seacy of Larkspur, Colorado, Kristie Moss Jones (Tim Adcock) of Clarksville, Tennessee and James Lee Moss, IV (Talia Dunivant) of Lewisburg, Tennessee. She was Big Mimi to her great-grandchildren, A.J. Jones of Clarksville, Tennessee, Micheal Moss Jones of Cleveland, Tennessee, Fallon Lee Moss of Lewisburg, Tennessee and River Wilde Seacy of Larkspur, Colorado. Lois is also survived by her brother, Larry D, Hargrove of Shelbyville, Tennessee and a special niece, Diane (Ronnie) Curtis of Chapel Hill, Tennessee.
Lois served her Lord and Savior as an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg where she worshiped. She was moderator of the Women of the church for many years and was awarded with The Life Time Membership Pin.
She served her community as the first MISS MARSHALL COUNTY. She was always on the campaign trail for the Democratic Party. She was President of Democratic Women of Marshall County for 13 years. Lois also volunteered with the Red Cross for well over 40 years. She was also on the board of the Salvation Army and many other organizations over the years. She also served on the board of the Lewisburg Woman’s Club. Lois was the epitome of a graceful, eloquent, strong southern lady. She also served on the board of the Marshall County Woman’s Club and the Miss Iris Pageant. Her warmth and kindness touched many lives.
A funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, at Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill, Tennessee. Visitation was prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until time of service. Lois was laid to rest beside her husband, Bruce at Swanson Cemetery.
