Larry Dale Curtis, 66, of Chapel Hill, died Saturday, September 14, 2024. Larry was born on May 23, 1958, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Robert T. Curtis and Frances Finchman Curtis. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Curtis Crutcher and brother-in-law, Jim Crutcher.
Larry was a 1976 graduate of Forrest High School and an outstanding athlete. Larry was still faithful to the Forrest Rockets Football team as he was still a part of the Curtis chain gang at every home ball game, where he said it was the best seat in the house. Larry was employed at ICP for 25 years until its closure, and this is where he began his career at Lawrence Funeral Home where he served faithfully for the last 18 years up until his final day.
Larry was an avid Forrest Rocket, Tennessee Volunteers, and Pittsburgh Steeler fan. You could find him on any given day – if a ball game was on, Larry was coaching them. To some people Larry was a quiet sweetheart, but to those of us who knew him best, he was a prankster at heart and loved to aggravate to no end. If Larry Curtis was your friend, you knew it without a doubt. He was only a phone call away and would do anything for you. Larry was a major part of Chapel Hill and will be missed by so many.
Larry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy Hargrove Curtis; daughter, Rachel Curtis (Danny) Goodman, of Clifton, Tennessee; son, Joshua (Meredith) Floyd of Eagleville; six grandchildren: Ryan, Brantley, Hadley, Steeler, Eliza, and Elliot; brothers, Ronnie (Diane) Curtis and Jimmy “Birdie” (Dawn) Curtis all of Chapel Hill; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family took place Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Smith and Rev. Tim McGehee officiating. Interment followed in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.
Josh Floyd, Ryan Floyd, Danny Goodman, Tad Hargrove, Ronnie Curtis, Jimmy Curtis, Tye Hargrove, and Brad Barcheers served as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Steeler Rich, Brantley Goodman, Bill Preston, Jimmy Henson, Sandra Hill, Ricky Mealer, and Joe Moss.
Lawrence Funeral Home and Cremation Services in charge of the arrangements.
