CHAPEL HILL — The quick start for the Cascade Lady Champions didn’t stand against the Forrest Lady Rockets Thursday night and Forrest picked up the 7-1 win on Senior Night.
After two Lady Champion singles and an error by Forrest to start the top of the first, bases were loaded for Claire Perry, who singled on a hit to left field, scoring Momo Bilbro on two outs.
Trouble in the circle in the opening inning for the Lady Champions resulted in three runs scored for Forrest, with the Lady Rockets taking a 3-1 lead heading into the second.
It was then senior Abby Ferguson doubled, scoring another run, while two Cascade errors scored Ferguson and Christa Warren.
The Lady Rockets padded the lead again in the bottom of the fifth frame on another Ferguson RBI single.
The Forrest defense remained locked down through the seventh, holding the Lady Champions to only one run.
Taylor Moreland picked up the win, allowing four hits over seven innings, while striking out six.
Brianna Horn opened the game for Cascade, with Katelyn Lambert coming in at the bottom of the second frame.
Ferguson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Forrest.
Perry went 2-for-3 with a RBI for Cascade.
