SUMMERTOWN — It wasn’t the way the Forrest Lady Rockets saw their season coming to a close.

After a disappointing run through the District 9-AA tournament, Forrest’s season came to a close in the Region 5-AA tournament in a 3-2 loss at Summertown.

Starting Lady Rocket pitcher Taylor Moreland had it rolling through the first several innings, retiring eight-straight batters before trouble stirred.

With two outs in the bottom of the third, Summertown relied on a single and a home run to left to grab the 2-0 lead over the Lady Rockets.

Forrest managed an answer in the top of the fourth when Christa Warren led off the frame with a base hit to center field.

Ella Chilton later followed with a two out single to put two on with two outs, bringing Sarah King to the plate.

King then smacked a line drive to center field and knocked in Warren to cut the Lady Eagle lead in half.

After Forrest drove in its first run of the game, Moreland recorded her third, 1-2-3 inning of the game and sat the Lady Eagles down in order in the fourth.

Three-straight singles and an error set up a third Summertown run, which ultimately proved the difference in the game.

Chilton drove in a second Lady Rocket run in the top of the sixth, but that was as far as Forrest could get at trying to complete the rally.

Warren and Chilton led Forrest at the plate, both going 2-for-3.

Moreland went six innings and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out six.

Monday’s loss was marked the first time since the 2018 season that Forrest missed a Spring Fling appearance.

The Lady Rockets close the 2024 season with a 25-10 overall record.
