CHAPEL HILL — It wasn’t the cleanest of efforts in the field, with Forrest committing an uncharacteristic five errors, but in the end, a stellar effort from starting pitcher Ella Chilton and another huge night at the plate by Abby Ferguson delivered Forrest a 7-3 non-district win over Riverdale.
Chilton was dominant from the pitcher’s circle, pitching a complete game and allowing three unearned runs on six this while striking out nine.
At the plate, it took Forrest a while, but after three scoreless innings, Christa Warren safely reached to lead off the Forrest fourth via error and after a sac bunt by Briley Burnhan, Taylor Moreland and Chilton both singled before Sarah King smacked a ground ball to left field to score Moreland for the first run of the game.
Forrest played add on in the fifth with Abby Ferguson’s second home run in as many games, scoring two more for the Lady Rockets.
Although Riverdale responded and plated three to tie the game in the top of the sixth, Forrest kept the bats going and Haddie Van Patton drove in the go-ahead run when she ground out.
Two batters later, Ferguson again delivered for Forrest, smashing a base-clearing triple to three more runs.
Ferguson led the Lady Rockets at the plate, going 2-for-5 with five RBIs, bringing her total to 12 RBIs over the past two games.
