CHAPEL HILL — After building a 14-point halftime lead, the Forrest Lady Rockets saw their offense grind to a halt in the third quarter.
Seizing the opportunity, Marshall County worked its way to the line and cut the Forrest lead to single digits. But Forrest was able to muster up enough of an answer to preserve the 36-26 win over the in-county rivals to the south.
Forrest relied on the three-ball in the first quarter and got baskets from Sadie Smith and Sienna Borba.
Marshall County got just one field goal in the opening frame which came courtesy of Madison Mason.
The Lady Rockets continued to play through junior Sadie Smith off the block and supplemented the attack with timely three-point shooting, adding three more triples in the quarter.
Smith also battled her way to the free throw line and shot 3-of-5 at

tempts to help the Lady Rockets carry a 22-8 lead into the half.
While the third quarter was no offensive masterpiece for Marshall County, Ridley was able to mirror Smith’s attack and got to the line where she cashed in on 4-of-4 tries in the quarter as the Tigerettes outscored the Lady Rockets 8-2 to cut the Forrest lead to 24-16 by the end of the third.
Forrest’s lone basket in the third came from Smith off the low post.
Ridley continued to lead the charge for the Tigerettes and tacked on eight more in the fourth quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers.
But Forrest Baeliy Stalnecker added six points for the Lady Rockets, while Smith and Borba each came through with a key 3-pointer to help secure the 10-point win.
Ridley’s 16 points led all scorers, while Smith scored 14 to pace the home team.
Stalnecker added 10 as well.
