Nashville — Living out a dream of playing collegiate softball is a sentiment former Forrest softball players Macyn Kirby and Jenna Blanton share in.
“Playing in the SEC has been a dream of mine and I’m thankful that God has given me the gift and opportunity to live out that dream,” said Blanton.
“Being at Kentucky is everything I dreamed of and more.”
“It’s a childhood dream and I love it here,” said Kirby. “Lipscomb is a great place and I think it’s the perfect fit for me.”
The two speedsters, both known for their slap-hit abilities and quickness on the base path, faced off at Lipscomb University’s Draper Diamond on Wednesday afternoon.
“Playing against former teammates is very exciting and fun,” Blanton said.
“I love getting to see my friends live out their dreams and being on the field with them again, even on the opposing team, is something to be grateful for.”
While playing against each other was exciting, the hometown crowd from Chapel Hill was an encouragement to both players.
“Having everybody from your hometown come to see you play—it’s pretty cool,” Kirby said.
“I see everyone in the stands, and I just love the support of Forrest and Chapel Hill. It’s amazing.”
Blanton agreed with Kirby adding, “Walking in and seeing all the fans made my heart happy and I knew that no matter what I did on the field, they were proud of me, and that made it easy for me to relax and just play a fun game for them to watch.”
Although the Wildcats took the 9-0 win over the Bisons, Kirby focused on the positives.
“We start conference play this upcoming weekend, so I think playing Kentucky was a good challenge for us. We needed to know where we were, so it was a good learning point.”
Blanton went 2-for-2 on the day scoring two runs, while Kirby went 1-for-3 with one run scored.
