LYNNVILLE — There was plenty of late-game drama between Cornersville and Santa Fe in the District 10-A semifinals on Friday night.
Despite having led for the majority of regulation, the Lady Wildcats took a 43-42 lead over Cornersville with 33 seconds left in regulation.
But Community’s Annamarie Cooper came up with a steal, was fouled and made a pair of free throws to put the Lady Dawg’s back on top for good as Cornersville held on for the 46-43 win to advance to the District 10-A championship game.
Through the bulk of regulation, Cornersville would appear to take control of the scoreboard, but every time the Lady ‘Dawgs got a comfortable lead, Santa Fe delivered from the perimeter.
As a team, the Lady Wildcats connected on eight 3-pointers in the contest, including three in a 17-point fourth quarter.
Still, Cornersville’s Ady Gentry was the workhorse for the Lady ‘Dawgs as she posted a game-high 19 points, including nine in the first half.
Cornersville led 14-9 after the first quarter and played add-on in the second to take a 24-18 lead into the half.
It was more of the same as Cornersville was able to successfully play through Gentry in the paint, but struggled to contain the perimeter attack from Santa Fe.
The win has Cornersville facing an all-too-familiar opponent in Richland, who has two wins over the Lady ‘Dawgs during the regular season.
Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. on Monday night at Richland.
