CORNERSVILLE — Don’t ever count Cornersville out of a game, regardless of the score.
Trailing visiting Community by six runs in Monday night’s non-district clash, the Lady ‘Dawgs rallied for seven in the bottom of the seventh and won on a walk-off when Zoe Blackwell ground out to second, scoring Alec Chandler for the game-winning run.
Community had a steady trickle of offense throughout the majority of the game, plating two runs in the second, one in the fourth and seemingly took full control of the game with a three-spot in the top of the seventh on a base-clearing double to take a 6-0 lead.
But in the Cornersville seventh, Zoe Blackwell led off the inning and was hit by a pitch, before Alec Cardin and Anna Wood connected on back-to-back singles, with Wood driving in the first run of the game.
Later in the inning, Cornersville loaded the bases on back-to-back errors and Ward helped her own cause with a grand slam to tie the game at six.
Kate Lamon and Molly Wells then drew walks, setting the stage for Blackwell’s second at-bat of the inning, which proved to be the game-winner.
Ward went 1-for-4 to lead Cornersville at the plate with four RBIs, while Cardin went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
Ward went the distance for Cornersville and struck out five, while allowing six runs on five hits, only two of which were earned
