CORNERSVILLE — What started as a slow grind in Tuesday night’s Battle of North and South in Marshall County saw Cornersville maintain a steady flow of second-half offense as the Lady ‘Dawgs were able to skate past Forrest, 43-27.
Early on, it was a struggle for both teams to find their consistency on the offensive end of the floor, but it was Forrest who was able to cling to a one-point lead following the first eight minutes.
Senior Kinslee Inlow highlighted the offense with a 3-pointer, while the Lady ‘Dawgs were held scoreless in the paint.
Still, Abigail Finley knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to account for all of Cornersville’s first-quarter points.
Eventually, the hosts were able to gain a little more traction and while Finley added another 3-pointer before the half, four additional
Lady ‘Dawgs penciled their name in the scoring column, with Ady Gentry adding a pair of baskets in the paint.
By halftime, Cornersville rallied for an 18-14 lead over the Lady Rockets.
That theme continued throughout the second half as Cornersville was able to successfully find its way to the line and maintained its double-figure lead until the final buzzer sounded.
Cornersville shot just one free throw in the first half, but finished a perfect 9-for-9 on the night, while Forrest didn’t attempt a single free throw.
Inlow led the Lady Rockets with 11 points, while Cornersville placed three in double figures.
Finley led all scorers with 13 points, while Emma Dunivan finished with 12.
Gentry chipped in 11 for the winners as well.
