CORNERSVILLE — A three-run, seventh-inning rally wasn’t enough for the Cornersville Lady ‘Dawgs acme up short against visiting Eagleville in a 6-4 loss on Monday night.
Trailing 6-1 heading to their final three outs, Cornersville made it interesting against Eagleville, drawing back-to-back walks to lead off the inning.
Anna Wood then connected on a one-out double to score the first run of the inning.
Carmen Ward continued the rallying effort later in the inning with a RBI single to center field and a fourth Lady ‘Dawg run crossed the plate with two outs when Molly Wells drew a bases-loaded walk.
But that bases-loaded walk was the final run Cornersville was able to generate in the seventh.
Carmen Ward went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Forrest, while Wells went 1-for-1 with three walks to her credit.
Ward went the distance for Cornersville and gave up six runs on 11 hits, only three of which were earned, while striking out four.
Cornersville returns to its home field on Thursday, hosting county rival Marshall County at 6 p.m.
