Howard L. Amis

Howard L. Amis, a beloved member of the Lewisburg community and a dedicated worker for the City of Lewisburg, passed away on December 20, 2023, at the age of 88. He was born on June 21, 1935, to Frank and Annie Bell Smith Amis.

Howard is preceded in death by his wife Cleo; his parents; brothers, William, Gus, Frank Jr, and Rufus; sisters, Betty McClain, and Zora Smith; and grandchild, Jarrett Campbell. He is survived by his son, Troy Amis; daughters, Beverly Campbell and Darlene Campbell; grandchildren, Zachary Amis, Quentin Campbell, Laquesha McGuire, Dillard Amis, Tiffany Campbell, and Shatarah Campbell; great grandchildren, Sevion Campbell, Sofia Campbell, Sarah Campbell, Saulo Campbell, Javaeh Elgin, Malaysia Campbell, Erika Campbell, Christopher Donald, Qetura McGuire; in-laws, Larry and Vanessa Campbell, Robert L and Willie Campbell, Joe and Pearlee Richardson and very special friends Steve and Wanda Hammons, Annie Bell Jones; and his wonderful neighbors.

Howard’s kind heart endeared him to all who crossed his path. He truly embodied the essence of a hardworking and compassionate individual. Throughout his life, Howard found comfort in the simplicity of farming and gardening. He possessed a green thumb, nurturing vibrant plants and plentiful crops with care and dedication. His generosity knew no bounds, as he shared the harvest of his labor with family, neighbors, and friends, bringing joy and sustenance to those around him.

He dedicated 27 years of his life to working for the City of Lewisburg. Beyond his work and hobbies, Howard’s greatest source of pride and joy was his family. He cherished the special moments spent with grandkids and their spouses. Their presence brought immense happiness into his life, and they will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Howard L. Amis will remain forever remembered as an upstanding citizen, a dedicated truck driver, a loving father, and a cherished member of the Lewisburg community. His legacy of warmth, generosity, and hard work will continue to inspire and uplift all those whose lives he touched.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church and will continue until the funeral hour of 12:00 p.m.  A burial will follow in Beechwood Cemetery.
