Howard Douglas “Doug” Hazlett (Possum), a proud U.S. Army veteran, passed away on February 15, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on July 21, 1962, in Madison, Tenn., he spent much of his life in Lewisburg, where he built meaningful connections with those around him.

Possum was a graduate of MCHS Class of 1980, who was known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor. He loved to joke around and was always the life of the party—ready to share a laugh with anyone lucky enough to be in his presence. He was of the Baptist faith. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, activities that allowed him to spend quality time with friends in the great outdoors. He also enjoyed watching old TV shows when he was not able to be outside.

Possum is survived by his sons, Brian Hazlett and Alonzo Tracy; daughters, Tara Hazlett and Jennifer Hazlett; sisters; Donna Poarch (Andy), Diane Hazlett, and Debbie Blalock (Kevin); nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and his many friends who will miss his companionship, laughter, and the warmth he brought to their lives.

Possum is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Alton and Lynn Owens Hazlett and his sister, Ann Lee.

As we remember Doug, let’s celebrate a life well-lived, filled with friendship, faith, and laughter.
