Pools have closed and the feeling of fall is in the air. Marshall County is ready to start the fall season with numerous events.
Don’t forget the Cornersville and MCHS homecoming parades this Friday, Sept. 29, starting around 12:30 p.m. There will be road closures in Cornersville and Lewisburg.
Cornersville will have their pep rally on the CHS football field and MCHS’s pep rally will be on the Courthouse square. Cornersville High School’s queen and her court will be introduced Friday at 5:30 p.m., before the 7:00 p.m. kickoff against Cannon County Lions. The MCHS crowning ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. before the 7:00 kickoff against Creek Wood Heritage.
Saturday, Oct. 7, is the date set for two of the long running events of the season and one new event.
Kicking off the fun-filled month is the 32nd annual Lewisburg Lions Club Octoberfest on Saturday, October 7. Held at Rock Creek Park, the Lions’ Octoberfest festivities include great food, fun and entertainment. Again, there will be the annual “Fall Cruise In” with several different classes for cars, trucks, and hot rods 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Register and pay the $5 entry fee at the entrance on 1st Ave. Judging starts at 11 a.m. and for the third year, awards are sponsored by East Commerce Automotive.
What better way to kick off the event than an all you can eat pancake and sausage breakfast for only $7.00 per plate? A family tradition for more than 40 years starts at 6:00 a.m. Pancakes will be available throughout most of the morning with hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and hotdogs on the menu for lunch.
There is something for everyone as many local residents participate by setting up booths along the creek to showcase their arts, crafts, and homemade wares, along with other informative booths. Entertainment has always played a big part in Octoberfest and this year will be no different. A full slate of entertainment has been scheduled beginning at 8:30 a.m. and running throughout the day. Come join in the fun, mingle with your friends and neighbors, and have a great day.
The Lewisburg Lions Club has been in existence since 1937. Throughout the years annual events as Octoberfest has made it possible for Lions to help serve our community in many ways such as eye care assistance and many local charities.
Members of the local Lions Club ask that you mark your calendar and make your plans to come out and join in the fun and festivities.
The Marshall County Art Guild, 107 W Commerce Street, will start their Fall Art Show & Sale at 8:00 a.m. and will continue until 2:00 p.m. On display will be dozens of pieces in a wide range of styles, created by artists of all ages. The judging will take place on Friday, Oct. 6, and ribbons will be awarded. Saturday, visitors will be able to vote on Peoples’ Choice, adult and youth categories, as well as check out the winning pieces.
Also downtown Lewisburg, on the square, there will be a new event this season. The Carnival Themed Main Street Event will begin at 10:00 a.m. Main Street businesses will have carnival themed games and snacks. Webs Carnival Treats will be set up in the lot beside McKenzie Law Firm. The carnival themed fun will continue until 4:00 p.m.
So get out of the house and have fun on Oct. 7.
