The Marshall County Historical Society will meet Sunday afternoon, August 4, at 2:00 p.m. in the museum at 230 College Street.

Emily Gordon will have a PowerPoint presentation on the 100-year history of the house on 780 Yell Road, where she and husband Jerry have lived for the past 40 years.

Recently named Vintage Largo of Lewisburg, the house was built in 1924 by Charles and Maxine Sanders. Between 1951 and 1984, the house was occupied by Roger and Ming Brown and their four children.

The house has undergone several renovations and additions over the years. Distinguishing features include the Roman-style rock wall that runs along Yell Road, the wide inviting front porch as part of the bungalow-style house that was popular in that period, the beautiful lawn with sidewalks and stately trees, a log cabin in the side yard, and a once popular tennis court recently converted to an outdoor venue of interesting artifacts.

The house is filled with hundreds of antiques and collectibles, including shelves of Blue Ridge Pottery. This interesting house has been on several Home Tours, which is a testament to its fine craftsmanship and unique décor.

Gordon has self-published a beautiful magazine-style compilation of the home’s history with biographies and memories of the former owners.  She has allowed the historical society to copy this in black and white for the meeting.

Immediately after the meeting, the Gordons will open the doors of the home to those in attendance who would like to tour the house and grounds. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting and celebrate the 100th year of this historic home. All memories are welcome.
