LEWISBURG — Marshall County built a first-half lead against visiting Tullahoma in Tuesday night’s District 8-3A matchup in Lewisburg, but a disastrous close to the fourth quarter, and a near-perfect effort in the closing minutes at the free throw line by Tullahoma, gave the Lady Wildcats the 40-33 win.
Mashawna Ridley helped spark the Tigerettes to the early first-half lead by knocking down eight points in the first quarter.
As a team, the Tigerettes outscored Tullahoma 13-12 in the first period and was able to pad their lead in the second with 10 more points.
In the first half, Marshall County shot a combined four 3-pointers.
Late in the fourth quarter, Tigerette senior Maggie Steely connected on a 3-pointer to give the hosts a 33-28 lead.
But Steely’s basket was the last shot that would fall for the Tigerettes as Tullahoma closed the game on a 12-0 run.
Tullahoma did the bulk of its damage at the free throw line, cashing in on 13-of-17 attempts, including a 12-of-15 effort in the second half.
Ridley led the Tigerettes with 17 points and was the lone player to reach double figures.
