COLUMBIA – Addison Bunty, a 2022 Forrest graduate, signed her letter of intent to continue her academic and softball career at Bryan College in Dayton.
“I reached out to them and their coach emailed me back saying they were looking for outfielders and they liked that I had already played two years in college,” Bunty said.
“This was appealing to them because I had collegiate experience.”
Although Bunty had other offers, it was the at-home feel of Dayton that ultimately sealed the deal for her and the Bryan Lions.
“Dayton is a lot like Chapel Hill,” said Bunty.
“It felt like home. Everybody there made it seem like family and a welcoming community. I just felt comfortable.”
Bunty completed a two-year stint with Columbia State, where she was a key leader and utility player for the Lady Chargers.
“Being at Columbia State was a change from playing at Forrest,” said Bunty.
“You played with girls who have completely different backgrounds and are from different places. At Columbia State I had to re-learn how my teammates practice, play, and overcome difficulties, which is a challenge when you have such a short time with them.”
Her time at Columbia State enhanced Bunty’s hard work and leadership, and she is dedicated to showcasing these skills at Bryan.
There’s a good chance Bunty will be in the starting lineup as an outfielder, ready for left, right, or center.
Offensively Bunty will contribute as a speedy slap hitter, to the excitement of the coaching staff, including one coach who was a slap hitter herself at Carson-Newman.
Bunty was part of two Lady Rocket state championship teams in 2019 and 2021 and state-runner up her senior year in 2022.
She will major in Business Administration and Marketing.
Bryan College is an NAIA school that competes in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).
