Back in October, The Post covered the Duck River Education Day that was held on Oct. 20, 2023. The annual event has grown since it started a little over 10 years ago. The past event had ten learning stations that covered different topics relating to the Duck River watershed, the environment, and so much more.

Following their field trip that day, students were asked to write an essay on what they learned. This year, Morgan Williams of Cornersville Elementary School won the Marshall County Duck River Education Essay. This is the first time a fifth grader from Cornersville has won!

On Friday Feb. 12, the Friends of Henry Horton State Park (FOHHSP) partnered with GM to celebrate Morgan’s win with a pizza party for her homeroom class. They also presented her with an engraved plaque that will hang in Cornersville Elementary School for a year.
